Elisabeth Moss has explained the viral story about a crew member from The Handmaid’s Tale who was said to have asked for her on-set underwear. She said the story wasn’t as weird as people thought, and it was actually misunderstood.
Talking to People, Moss said she knows who the crew member is but is waiting for him to come forward and tell everyone. “I think it’s funny. I know who it is, but I need him to say it,” she said with a laugh.
Moss explained that the crew member had spoken to her about it and told her the story had been misunderstood. It wasn’t a direct request for her personal underwear, which made her feel more comfortable and able to laugh about the whole thing.
This story first came up when Moss talked about how cast and crew were allowed to take props and costume items from the set, since filming for the final season had ended. Moss had asked if she could take some items, including the custom-made underwear that her character, Offred, wore during the show.
Later, she found out that someone else had already asked for that same item. This surprised her, and she shared the moment in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live. At that time, she didn’t want to know who it was, since she still worked closely with the team.
“There was one thing I wanted—Offred’s underwear from the set, which was specially made. But someone told me that someone had already asked for it,” she said on the show.
Now, Moss has confirmed that the situation wasn’t inappropriate or creepy. She said the crew member didn’t actually ask for her underwear, which made her feel better. “It’s not as bad as we thought,” she said. “He didn’t ask for my underwear specifically. So, we’re good, guys.”
Moss laughed about the situation and said she’s still waiting for the person to step forward and share the story from their side. Even though the story sounded strange at first, she made it clear it wasn’t harmful and that everything is okay.
The final season of The Handmaid’s Tale premieres on Hulu on April 8, bringing the popular series to a close.
