As soon as the earthquake struck, some people ran outside their homes and started shouting, which made even more people come out. A 4.0 magnitude earthquake shook Delhi NCR early Monday morning at 5:36 AM. The epicentre was near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The earthquake occurred at a depth of 5 km.

People Felt Strong Tremors

Residents in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad felt strong tremors. Many people living in high-rise buildings rushed outside in fear. A loud sound was also heard when the earthquake struck.

A woman in Noida Sector 20 said she was on a morning walk and did not feel it at first, but people around her ran outside. A passenger at New Delhi Railway Station described the tremors as very strong, saying it felt like a bridge was collapsing. A resident of Ghaziabad mentioned that he had never experienced such a strong earthquake before.

Authorities on Alert

Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter), urging people to stay calm and take precautions. He assured that authorities are monitoring the situation. Delhi Police also shared an emergency contact number (#Dial112) for assistance.

Earthquake in Bihar After Delhi Tremors

A few hours later, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake also hit Siwan, Bihar, at 8:02 AM. It occurred at a depth of 10 km, as reported by NCS.
