Curfew Lifted in Nagpur After 6 Days
The Maharashtra government has announced financial compensation for 71 people affected by the recent Nagpur riots. The affected individuals will receive compensation directly in their bank accounts within 48 hours. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered authorities to ensure quick relief. The government has also decided to recover the cost of damaged properties from the rioters. If they fail to pay, their properties will be seized and auctioned.
Curfew Completely Removed in Nagpur
After six days of curfew, authorities have now lifted restrictions in all areas of Nagpur. The curfew was first imposed on March 17 after violent clashes broke out in various parts of the city. Initially, the curfew was removed in some areas on March 20 and March 22. Finally, on March 23, the remaining four police station areas—Kotwali, Tehsil, Ganeshpeth, and Yashodhara Nagar—were also declared free from restrictions.
Compensation to Be Distributed Quickly
According to Nagpur Collector Dr. Vipin, the process of identifying eligible beneficiaries has already been completed. The compensation will be transferred to the bank accounts of 71 people by Tuesday evening. The affected individuals include those whose vehicles and properties were damaged during the riots.
Dr. Vipin stated,
“If anyone believes they have been wrongly excluded from the compensation list, they can contact the collector’s office or the designated helpline. If found eligible, they will receive assistance.”
Why Did the Violence Start?
The riots in Nagpur started following rumors related to a religious protest in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. Reports suggested that a sacred cloth (chadar) with Islamic inscriptions was burned, leading to widespread anger and clashes. The situation escalated quickly, prompting authorities to impose a curfew in 11 police station areas to control the violence.
Police Action and Arrests
Nagpur Police analyzed video footage from the riots and arrested 105 individuals, including 12 minors. Legal action has been initiated against all those involved in the violence. The police have assured that strict security measures will remain in place in sensitive areas to prevent further incidents.
Government’s Strict Stand on Rioters
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has made it clear that those responsible for the destruction will have to pay for the damages. He stated:
“If the rioters do not pay, their properties will be seized and auctioned.”
Fast Response by Police and Administration
According to CM Fadnavis, law enforcement acted swiftly, and the situation was brought under control within four hours of the outbreak.
With the curfew completely lifted, normal life is expected to resume in Nagpur soon. However, security forces will continue patrolling sensitive areas to maintain peace.

नागपुर कलेक्टर डॉ. विपिन ने बताया कि प्रशासन ने सभी पात्र लाभार्थियों की सूची और उनके बैंक खातों का विवरण तैयार कर लिया है। यदि किसी को लगता है कि उनका नाम सूची में नहीं है, तो वे कलेक्टर कार्यालय या हेल्पलाइन नंबर पर संपर्क कर सकते हैं।
हिंसा की पृष्ठभूमि
इस हिंसा की शुरुआत छत्रपति संभाजी नगर जिले में औरंगजेब की कब्र हटाने के विरोध प्रदर्शन के दौरान हुई थी। इस दौरान पवित्र चादर जलाने की अफवाहें फैलीं, जिससे माहौल और बिगड़ गया। इसके बाद नागपुर में पथराव और दंगों की घटनाएं हुईं।
संपत्ति की भरपाई दंगाइयों से होगी
मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस ने स्पष्ट किया है कि दंगाइयों से नुकसान की भरपाई करवाई जाएगी। यदि वे भुगतान नहीं करते, तो उनकी संपत्ति जब्त कर नीलाम की जाएगी।
105 लोगों की गिरफ्तारी
नागपुर पुलिस ने CCTV फुटेज और अन्य वीडियो की जांच के बाद 105 लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया है, जिनमें 12 नाबालिग भी शामिल हैं। प्रशासन ने आश्वासन दिया है कि दंगाइयों के खिलाफ सख्त कानूनी कार्रवाई की जाएगी।
कर्फ्यू पूरी तरह हटा
हिंसा के छह दिन बाद, रविवार (23 मार्च) को नागपुर के सभी संवेदनशील इलाकों से कर्फ्यू हटा लिया गया। पहले चरण में 20 मार्च को कुछ इलाकों से कर्फ्यू हटाया गया था, फिर 22 मार्च को अन्य क्षेत्रों में छूट दी गई। अब 23 मार्च को कोतवाली, गणेशपेठ, तहसील और यशोधरा नगर क्षेत्रों से भी कर्फ्यू हटा दिया गया।
नागपुर के पुलिस आयुक्त रविंदर सिंघल ने बताया कि संवेदनशील इलाकों में अब भी पुलिस की गश्त जारी रहेगी ताकि शांति बनी रहे।
