Seat 11A Miracle: British National Survives Ahmedabad Plane Crash, Shares Details
A tragic plane crash occurred in Ahmedabad, where an Air India flight heading to London crashed shortly after takeoff. Authorities have confirmed that at least 204 people have died in the incident. However, there is news of one British passenger who survived.
According to Ahmedabad Police, a man named Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, a British national, was sitting in seat number 11A and managed to survive. He was traveling on the Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8, which was carrying 242 people, including 232 passengers and 10 crew members.

Survivor Speaks Out
In a hospital interview, Vishwas Kumar Ramesh showed his boarding pass to journalists as proof of his identity and seat number. He said:
“Just 30 seconds after takeoff, I heard a loud noise and the plane crashed. It happened so fast.”
He added:
“When I woke up, I saw dead bodies all around me. I was very scared. I stood up and started running. There was wreckage everywhere. Someone helped me into an ambulance, and I was taken to the hospital.”
He also said his brother Ajay was sitting in a nearby row, but he hasn’t been able to find him yet.
“Please help me find my brother,” he told reporters.
What Relatives Say?
According to the report, Ramesh’s cousin, Ajay Valgi, in Leicester, UK. He said Ramesh had called his family to tell them he was alive and had heard a big explosion during the crash. Ramesh’s wife and children are currently in the UK. He was born in India but has been living in Britain for many years.
Plane Crash Details
The Air India flight crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad, heading to London.
The aircraft was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also confirmed dead in the crash.
204 bodies have been recovered so far, though it’s unclear if all were from the plane.
The plane crashed into a hostel building for doctors near the airport. At least 41 medical students are being treated in the hospital.
Official Response
Air India, owned by Tata Group, announced it will give ₹1 crore (10 million rupees) to the families of those who died.
Home Minister Amit Shah has reached Ahmedabad, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to visit.
The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is sending a team to help with the investigation.
The UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) will also support the investigation.
Air India has arranged relief flights from Delhi and Mumbai for families of the victims.
Air India chairman N Chandrasekaran issues statement
Tata Group announced that Tata group will provide RS 1 Crore as compensation to the family of each person who died in the crash.
“With deep sadness, I confirm that Air India Flight AI 171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in a tragic accident today. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones of everyone affected by this terrible event.”
“Right now, our main priority is to support all those affected and their families. We are doing everything we can to help emergency response teams at the crash site and to offer full support and care to those impacted.
We will share more updates as we receive confirmed information. An emergency center has been set up, and support teams are available to help families looking for information.”
Meanwhile, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad also shared a statement about the situation:
“On June 12, 2025, Flight AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick crashed shortly after takeoff, outside the airport premises.
Passengers are requested to contact their airlines for the latest updates before coming to the airport. We ask for your cooperation and patience as authorities continue to manage the situation. More updates will be shared as soon as they are available,” said an SVPIA spokesperson.
