Emraan Hashmi 'Awarapan' and 'Jannat' to Return to Theatres
The trend of re-releasing popular films at the box office is going strong! Movies like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Bareilly Ki Barfi, and Sanam Teri Kasam are back in theatres, with large crowds coming to relive the nostalgia. Sanam Teri Kasam, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, has been especially successful, making more money in its first three days of re-release than its original lifetime earnings. Fans on social media have started asking for more movies to be re-released.
There were reports today suggesting that Jannat and Awarapan, both films starring Emraan Hashmi, might also return to cinemas soon. Jannat, which was a hit when it released in 2008, and Awarapan, which didn’t do well initially but became a cult favorite, are remembered for their music and the chemistry between the lead actors. However, producer Mukesh Bhatt spoke to News18 Showsha and revealed that this news isn’t entirely true.
Bhatt, who financed both Jannat and Awarapan, shared, “Oh my god (laughs)! I’m getting a lot of news from all directions. Yes, it’s true that people are approaching me. But I follow a marketing rule: don’t give them what you have, but what they want. It seems like there’s a demand for re-releasing these successful films. I plan to discuss it with my team to see what we can do.”
He believes this interest comes from the success of Sanam Teri Kasam, whose music resonated with audiences just like Jannat and Awarapan. “Nothing is decided yet, we’re still discussing it. I’ve had many inquiries about Jannat and Awarapan because of the success of Sanam Teri Kasam. The music in those films was also a big hit. Let me explore the options, but at the moment, nothing is fixed,” he explained.
Earlier, Emraan shared his thoughts on Awarapan, which co-starred Shriya Saran. “It wasn’t successful in 2007, but today, it’s my most successful film. It’s surprising that what it didn’t achieve at the box office in the first few weeks, it gained over 20 years! It earned so much respect and attention. It shows that films can succeed over time. I felt there was truth in my performance, which made me realize that I want to focus on performance-driven films,” he said.
