IIT Madras Director Lauds Cow Urine for Its ‘Medicinal Value’, Video Goes Viral

The Director of IIT Madras has praised cow urine for its medicinal properties, describing it as valuable for health. In a video that has since gone viral, he highlighted its potential benefits, sparking widespread attention and debate on the subject.

In a video, Kamakoti reportedly supported the use of gomutra (cow urine), claiming it has “anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and digestive properties.” He also mentioned that it can be used for conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome. While participating in an event at a Go Samrakshana Sala in Chennai, he shared a story about a sanyasi who, according to him, drank cow urine when he had a high fever. Hindustan Times could not independently verify the video’s authenticity.

Sources from IIT Madras confirmed that Kamakoti made these statements. They also mentioned that, as an ‘organic farmer,’ he was speaking at the Goshala event, and his comments should be understood in a broader context.

The remarks made by the IIT Madras director were criticized by Congress and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam members.

Congress leader Karti P Chidambaram criticized the IIT Madras director’s remarks, accusing him of “promoting pseudoscience.” He tagged the Indian Medical Association in his tweet, calling the director’s actions inappropriate.

DMK leader TKS Elangovan also condemned the remarks and called for the director’s transfer from IIT Madras. He suggested that the director should be moved to a government medical college instead, as IIT deals with engineering and other fields. Elangovan proposed that the director be appointed as the head of AIIMS instead.
