Doing Nothing Earn ₹35 Lakh, Chinese Influencer’s Claim Sparks Controversy

Doing Nothing Earn ₹35 Lakh

Chinese Influencer Sparks Outrage by Boasting About Huge Earnings

A Chinese influencer, Gu Xixi, has angered many people after claiming she made 300,000 yuan (about $41,000 or ₹35 lakh) in just one day by doing nothing but lying in bed. During a live stream, she called this “hard-earned money” and revealed that between February 8 and 16, she earned a total of 10.39 million yuan ($1.4 million) from one platform, with an estimated commission of 2.79 million yuan. On another platform, she made 8.94 million yuan ($1.2 million) in a week, according to the South China Morning Post.

"Doing Nothing" But Earning Millions

Gu Xixi boasted, “Today, I stayed in bed all day, did nothing, and still made 1.16 million yuan in sales from my Douyin shop, earning a commission of 303,200 yuan ($42,000).” She added, “The more people criticize me, the more I make. It’s not about earning hundreds of thousands a month, but hundreds of thousands per day!”

Her comments sparked criticism, with many doubting her claims and questioning whether it was fair or ethical.

A Controversial Figure

Gu Xixi, from southeastern China, is known for her bold and sometimes shocking online behavior. She first became famous for bizarre stunts, like swallowing a ping pong ball. However, her content has led to multiple suspensions for being too vulgar, including making offensive remarks and engaging in inappropriate behavior.

She has also shared details about her troubled past, revealing that she was sentenced to two and a half years of probation for fighting when she was 15 years old.

Flaunting Wealth and Public Backlash

This is not the first time Gu Xixi has shown off her wealth. In November 2023, she announced plans to buy a 2,000-square-meter luxury villa in Nantong, worth over 20 million yuan ($2.7 million). Many people have criticized her for bragging about her money, especially after her latest comments about making millions so easily.

Clarification or More Provocation?

As backlash grew, Gu Xixi responded in a February 17 live stream, saying that her “doing nothing” comment was meant to provoke her critics. She explained, “Do you really think I do nothing all day? I said it just to annoy the haters.”

Despite her explanation, many remain unimpressed, questioning both her attitude and her success.

She has shown off her wealth before.

Last November, she said she wanted to buy a 2,000-square-meter villa in Nantong, which would cost over 20 million yuan (US$2.7 million).

After facing criticism online, Gu changed her statement during a live stream on February 17. She said all her money was earned through hard work and that her earlier comment was meant to annoy people who dislike her.

“Do you know why I don’t often share my sales numbers now? Every time I do, it causes problems, right? It creates trouble, right? This time, it even made the news. That’s why influencers prefer to act like they are poor,” she said.

“We did not steal or cheat. All the money we earn comes from hard work. When I said I do nothing all day, I only said it to provoke people. Do you really think I do nothing all day? I just wanted to annoy the haters.”

However, her words did not calm people’s anger.

One person online commented: “It is painful for a master’s student to see this, and a PhD student to cry. She has given a new meaning to ‘hard-earned money.’”

Another person added: “Please ban her account, so she doesn’t have to ‘work so hard!’”
