Ayushman Bharat Yojana Launched in Delhi
From today, people living in Delhi can get benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). This health scheme will now provide up to ₹10 lakh health coverage to eligible people in Delhi. The government will start distributing Ayushman health cards today at 3 PM during a special event at Vigyan Bhawan.
This scheme was launched in 2018 to help poor and middle-income families across India by reducing their medical expenses. It is managed by the National Health Authority (NHA) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Delhi is Now the 35th State to Join the Scheme
Recently, the Delhi government signed an agreement with the central government to bring Ayushman Bharat to the capital. With this, Delhi becomes the 35th state or union territory to join the scheme. Currently, West Bengal is the only major state that has not yet joined.
Who Will Get the ₹10 Lakh Health Coverage?
According to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the central government will give ₹5 lakh health insurance, and the Delhi government will add another ₹5 lakh, making the total health cover ₹10 lakh.
The scheme will benefit:
Around 30 lakh people from 6.54 lakh poor families
Senior citizens above 70 years
ASHA workers and Anganwadi workers
Card Distribution Begins April 10, 2025
On the first day, around 400 to 500 people will receive their Ayushman cards. The government will also set up special counters and websites to help people register for the scheme.
People will get updates on their mobile phones about:
Their registration status
Card collection process
This way, they don’t need to visit offices again and again.
Cards Only After Document Verification
Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh said that only eligible people will get the card, and all documents will be checked to avoid fraud. The goal is to make sure that the real beneficiaries, especially the poor, get proper treatment without worrying about money.

Special efforts are being made to make the registration process easy. People will receive updates through mobile messages, and they can also register through online portals and help counters. The Health Minister has made it clear that strict checks will be done to stop fraud and misuse. This scheme will especially benefit the elderly, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and families below the poverty line.
With Delhi now the 35th region to implement Ayushman Yojana, this scheme is becoming stronger across the country. It shows the government’s commitment to health care for all. If used properly, this scheme can truly change lives and bring relief to millions.
