Supreme Court Investigates Judge Cash Case
The Supreme Court has called for a detailed investigation into the case of large amounts of cash found at the official residence of Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Verma. Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna has asked the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court to seek an explanation from Justice Verma and submit a full report. The court has also ordered an investigation into call records related to the case.
Supreme Court Uploads Photos & Videos of Seized Cash
Despite photo and video evidence, Justice Verma has claimed innocence, calling the incident a conspiracy against him. The Supreme Court has released the investigation report, including visuals of the recovered cash, on its website.
Video Evidence from Delhi Police
Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora had earlier shared a video with CJI Sanjiv Khanna and Delhi HC Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyay. The video, recorded on March 14, reportedly shows burnt cash at Justice Verma’s residence. This has led to a deeper investigation into the case. Justice Verma, however, has denied the allegations and claimed that he is being framed.

Delhi HC Chief Justice’s Report
In his report to the CJI, Delhi HC Chief Justice Upadhyay confirmed receiving the video of the alleged incident from the Delhi Police Commissioner. When questioned about the money, Justice Verma expressed concerns about a possible conspiracy against him. The report concluded that a detailed investigation is necessary.
Details of Security Personnel & Call Records Demanded
The CJI has also requested details of the security personnel and official staff deployed at Justice Verma’s residence in the past six months. Additionally, mobile service providers have been asked to provide call records linked to the case.
Justice Verma has been advised not to dispose of his phone or delete any messages, calls, or data. In response, the Delhi HC Chief Justice confirmed that call records have been received and shared with the Supreme Court via a pen drive. Internet Protocol Detail Records (IPDR) will also be provided once obtained from the police commissioner or service providers.
Justice Verma Defends Himself
Justice Verma has strongly denied any involvement and claimed that he or his family never stored cash in the house. He called the allegations baseless and illogical. He also questioned the authenticity of the video, saying it shows things that were not present at the site when he last saw it.
He further stated that no sacks of burnt cash were ever recovered or shown to his daughter, personal staff, or domestic workers. He believes this is part of a conspiracy against him, which also includes false allegations spread on social media in December 2024.

शनिवार देर रात सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट के जज जस्टिस यशवंत वर्मा के आधिकारिक आवास पर मिले कैश से जुड़ी रिपोर्ट, फोटो और वीडियो अपनी वेबसाइट पर अपलोड कर दिए। यह पहली बार है जब इस तरह का कोई मामला सामने आया है। इन दस्तावेजों में सुप्रीम कोर्ट की आंतरिक जांच के निष्कर्षों के साथ-साथ जस्टिस वर्मा द्वारा आरोपों के खंडन का भी विवरण दिया गया है।

दिल्ली पुलिस कमिश्नर संजय अरोड़ा ने 14 मार्च की रात को CJI संजीव खन्ना और दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट के चीफ जस्टिस डी के उपाध्याय के साथ एक वीडियो साझा किया था। इस वीडियो में जस्टिस वर्मा के आवास में जले हुए नकदी के कथित सबूत थे। इसके बाद अब यह तय हो गया है कि दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट के मौजूदा जज के खिलाफ गहन जांच की जाएगी।

दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट के मुख्य न्यायाधीश उपाध्याय ने अपनी रिपोर्ट में बताया कि पुलिस कमिश्नर संजय अरोड़ा ने 14 मार्च को जस्टिस वर्मा के घर में आग लगने और नकदी मिलने का वीडियो साझा किया था। जब जस्टिस वर्मा से इस बारे में सवाल किया गया तो उन्होंने इसे अपने खिलाफ एक साजिश बताया। रिपोर्ट में कहा गया कि मामले की गहन जांच जरूरी है।
सुरक्षा गार्ड्स और कॉल रिकॉर्ड की होगी जांच
CJI ने दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट के चीफ जस्टिस से जस्टिस वर्मा के घर पिछले छह महीनों में तैनात निजी सुरक्षा अधिकारियों और अन्य कर्मचारियों की जानकारी मांगी है। इसके अलावा, जस्टिस वर्मा के मोबाइल फोन के कॉल रिकॉर्ड को भी जांचा जाएगा। मोबाइल सेवा प्रदाताओं को आदेश दिया गया है कि वे पिछले छह महीनों के कॉल डिटेल रिकॉर्ड (CDR) उपलब्ध कराएं।
CJI ने जस्टिस वर्मा को निर्देश दिया है कि वे अपने मोबाइल फोन से कोई डेटा न हटाएं और न ही उसमें कोई बदलाव करें। दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट के चीफ जस्टिस ने जवाब में बताया कि कॉल डिटेल रिकॉर्ड प्राप्त हो चुका है और इसे पेन ड्राइव में सुप्रीम कोर्ट को भेजा जा रहा है।
अपने बचाव में क्या कह रहे हैं जस्टिस वर्मा?
जस्टिस वर्मा ने खुद को निर्दोष बताते हुए कहा:
“मैं स्पष्ट रूप से कहता हूं कि मेरे या मेरे परिवार के किसी भी सदस्य ने उस स्टोररूम में कभी भी नकदी नहीं रखी। यह आरोप पूरी तरह से बेबुनियाद और साजिश का हिस्सा है।”
उन्होंने आगे कहा कि वीडियो में जो कुछ दिखाया गया है, वह मौके पर मौजूद नहीं था। इससे साफ है कि उन्हें फंसाने और बदनाम करने की साजिश की जा रही है।
जस्टिस वर्मा ने सवाल उठाया कि कथित जले हुए नोटों की कोई बोरी कभी बरामद या जब्त क्यों नहीं की गई? उन्होंने कहा कि न ही उनकी बेटी, न ही उनके निजी सचिव (PS) और न ही घरेलू कर्मचारियों को ऐसी कोई बोरी दिखाई गई।
अब इस पूरे मामले में सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने गहन जांच के संकेत दिए हैं और आने वाले दिनों में इससे जुड़े और खुलासे हो सकते हैं।
