The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to decide today whether Jasprit Bumrah will play in the Champions Trophy 2025. If Bumrah is unavailable, Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj are possible replacements in the Indian squad.

Bumrah, a key Indian fast bowler, suffered an injury during the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Since then, his participation in the Champions Trophy has been uncertain. Although he has been named in India’s squad for both the Champions Trophy and the upcoming ODI series against England, the BCCI has not confirmed his fitness yet. With only eight days left before the tournament, a final decision is expected soon.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, BCCI will make the final call on Bumrah’s participation today, February 11, as it is the deadline for submitting squads to the ICC. Bumrah recently had a back scan in Bengaluru, and the BCCI medical team is reviewing his condition. The selectors and team management will make the decision after consulting with medical experts.

A BCCI source told the Press Trust of India that Strength and Conditioning (S&C) coach Rajnikanth Sivagnanam and physio Thulasi Ram Yuvraj are overseeing Bumrah recovery. Dr. Nitin Patel, Head of Sports Science, is also monitoring the process, while national team S&C coach Soham Desai and physio Kamlesh Jain are being kept informed.

Who Could Replace Bumrah?

If Bumrah is ruled out, India will need a replacement. Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj are the leading candidates. Rana has recently impressed the team management and played in the first two ODIs against England, making him a strong contender for the final 15-member squad.

In addition, spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been included in the ODI squad against England, which could mean he might also make it to the Champions Trophy team. If that happens, Washington Sundar might be left out.
