Delhi- NCR Weather Update: Speed of planes and trains slowed down due to rain and fog in Delhi-NCR

Dense Fog in Delhi NCR

Rain is expected to arrive soon in Delhi and NCR. The weather department has issued a warning for fog after the rain. A yellow alert has been issued for the next three days.

On Wednesday, dense fog at Indira Gandhi International Airport led to the diversion of seven flights, which were not allowed to land on the runway. Flights from Air India, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air were diverted to Jaipur.

The fog in Delhi continues to disrupt transportation systems. Reduced visibility on runways and railway tracks is affecting the flow of traffic. On Wednesday, due to dense fog, seven flights were not allowed to land at the airport, and all flights from Air India, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air were diverted to Jaipur. On Wednesday night, several areas in Delhi NCR experienced rain.

Between 8 AM and 10:30 AM, flight operations were most affected. From late Tuesday night to Wednesday, about 200 flights were delayed. Dense fog and cold waves also reduced visibility on railway tracks, causing delays for over 150 trains. Passengers faced significant difficulties due to the slow-moving trains.

The dense fog is also affecting the speed of superfast trains. According to official reports, 44 trains arrived at Delhi stations 1 to 6 hours late. As a result, 38 trains heading in the opposite direction were also delayed. These included trains like Vikramshila, Sealdah Rajdhani, Howrah Rajdhani, Patna Rajdhani, Lucknow Tejas, Sampoorna Kranti, Mumbai Rajdhani, Mahabodhi, Kanpur Shatabdi, Gomti, Mahakausal, Vande Bharat, and Ferozepur Express. Furthermore, the Shiv Ganga Express arriving in the morning was 6 hours late, the Rewa Express 8 hours late, the Unchahar Express 10 hours late, and other trains like Mahakausal, Sealdah Rajdhani, and Howrah New Delhi were delayed by up to 8 hours.

In the morning, long lines of trains formed outside Delhi stations, as they were waiting for the green signal to enter the main station. Due to the ongoing disruption of the schedule, it became difficult to operate trains on the platforms, causing further inconvenience to passengers.

On the other hand, the airport operator, DIAL, stated that landings and take-offs would continue at the airport, but flights not meeting CAT-III standards could be affected. They advised passengers to contact their respective airlines for flight updates.
