8th Pay Commission
Mainly I want to tell you what is pay commission? Those people who are in government jobs must have come to know about this from here. The salary revision of a government employee is called pay commission. The government has revised the salary of central government employees every 10 years. The first pay commission was implemented in 1947, since then the 7th pay commission has been given to the central government employee and pensioners, and the 7th pay commission will end by 01 January 2026.
The Union Cabinet has approved the 8th Pay Commission, which will suggest revisions for the salaries and pensions of central government employees. The government will review and decide on the recommendations once the pay panel submits its report.
Currently, central government employees receive salaries based on the 7th Pay Commission, which was implemented in 2016. The new salary revisions will depend on the ‘fitment factor’, a multiplier applied to the current basic pay.
The announcement of the 8th Pay Commission has raised curiosity about the salary hike for around 1.2 crore central government employees and pensioners.
How Much Salary will Hike in 8th pay Commission and what is fitment factor?
I want to tell you that when the 7th Pay Commission was implemented, the Central Government salary had increased approximately 2.57 times in the basic salary. This time expectation to increase in basic salary approximately 2.57 to 2.85 may be 3 times. This is the expectation, because the employee is demanding and according to media this news in the market. This all calculation depends on the fitment factor.
Fitment Factor
Here I will tell you about the fitment factor. The fitment factor is a multiplier used to adjust salaries based on the pay commission’s recommendations. Under the 7th Pay Commission, the fitment factor was set at 2.57, which increased the basic salary in Level 1 from Rs 7,000 (6th Pay Commission) to Rs 18,000 in 2016.
However, Rs 18,000 was only the basic pay. After adding allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance, the total salary under the 7th Pay Commission became Rs 36,020.
According to reports, the fitment factor may increase to 2.86, raising the basic salary in Level 1 from Rs 18,000 to Rs 51,480. This change will also impact salaries and pensions across all 10 pay levels.
